For those of you who are not aware of Operation Write Home, it is a nonprofit organization that collects blank, high-quality, handmade note cards, and letters of encouragement and thanks, and sends them to deployed military. Visit their web site and watch their videos to learn more specific details.
Right now, they are in particular need of Any Hero letters. These do not have to be handmade, and if you do make them, they don’t have to be perfect. Store-bought cards, children’s artwork or coloring sheets, or kick-butt gorgeous handmade cards can be sent with a personal message to let heroes know they are appreciated!
It is my goal to collect an Any Hero letter from at least 40 people in my area, and send a box full of love, encouragement, and thanks to our heroes by September! You can help by writing some letters!
If you know me personally, and you are nearby, get your letters to me, and I will send them out with my growing collection! I’ll be carrying a few ready-to-use blank cards for the foreseeable future, so if you happen to spot me, I will provide you with a note card, wait for you to write a note, and you can give it to me as soon as you are done! Convenient!
For those of you who live too far away to get your cards to me, please consider holding your own letter drive. Talk to people about it, carry some blank cards and pens with you, and encourage others to write notes. Then, send a box of cheer from your neighborhood to Operation Write Home!
Operation Write Home is not branch-specific, so notes and cards are best if you avoid using military terms and titles. Writing a letter to “Hero,” makes it applicable to all of the men and women serving on our behalf.
